Substance abuse is our specialty, not a side service. For nearly two decades DFW SAP has guided drivers, employees and employers through the DOT return-to-duty process, and our clinicians have worked in substance abuse treatment and evaluation even longer.
A team of substance abuse specialists
DFW SAP is a team of Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors, Certified Employee Assistance Professionals and DOT Substance Abuse Professionals. Our SAPs have served in the DOT return-to-duty process for nearly 20 years and have conducted non-DOT substance abuse evaluations even longer. Our work sits where clinical care meets workplace safety: helping people who have had a drug or alcohol violation get an honest assessment, the right level of help, and a clear path forward.
Our Master’s and PhD-level clinicians were trained by leading experts in the field, and our team includes a board-approved Licensed Professional Counselor–Supervisor who supervises counselors working toward state licensure.
Our credentials, and why they matter to you
DOT Substance Abuse Professional
Qualified under 49 CFR 40.281: a qualifying credential, DOT qualification training, a national exam and ongoing continuing education. Only a qualified SAP can do your return-to-duty evaluations.
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor
Texas licensure specific to substance use disorders: assessment, treatment planning and recovery.
Licensed Professional Counselor–Supervisor
Advanced clinical licensure, including the authority to supervise other counselors.
Certified Employee Assistance Professional
The credential for professionals who specialize in people, performance and the workplace — the bridge between an employee’s recovery and an employer’s safety.
Doctoral-level clinician
Doctoral training in the mental health field, applied to evaluations that are thorough, individual and defensible.
Experience across the full continuum of care
Our clinicians have worked in nearly every setting where substance use disorders are treated, so our recommendations are grounded in what each level of care actually involves:
- Residential treatment
- Partial hospitalization
- Intensive and supportive outpatient programs
- Nonprofit and community programs
- Private practice
How we work
- Individual, not cookie-cutter. Every recommendation is built around your evaluation and your situation. In most of our cases that means education rather than a treatment program; treatment is recommended when your evaluation shows you need it.
- Impartial. A SAP is not an advocate for the employer or the employee. Our job is a fair evaluation that protects public safety, and straight answers about what is required of you.
- No self-referrals. We never refer you to a program we own or profit from.
- Confidential. Your information is shared only as DOT rules allow or with your written permission.
- Honest about time. We will not tell you how long the process takes before you have been evaluated — nobody can know that yet.
